Honoring a Beautiful Partnership: Farewell to Dee’s We’re Sew Creative: It was a deeply emotional and heartfelt moment today as, on behalf of Breast Cancer Hub (BCH), we said farewell to our cherished partner, Dee’s We’re Sew Creative in Concord, as the shop comes to a close. Over the years, I have been fortunate to build friendships with each of them, and it was truly difficult for me personally as well to see this meaningful chapter come to an end-and to think I won’t get to see or meet them in the same way again.

Our journey together began in January 2023 when Brenda first reached out with a vision of service and compassion. What followed was an extraordinary partnership built on kindness, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to supporting cancer patients and their families.

We are deeply grateful to the incredible core team-Sandy , Brenda, Diana, Jeanette, Jamelle, Blake, and so many others-who selflessly volunteered their time, talent, and expertise to create specialized BCH Patient Care Packages. Each item was lovingly handcrafted with perfection and detailing, to bring comfort, healing, and hope to those facing one of life’s most difficult battles.

A special thank you to Jasleen Kohli for baking the beautiful delicious blueberry cakes that made our farewell gathering so memorable, and to Madhumita Chatterjee for the heartfelt handmade souvenir that will forever remind the team of this remarkable partnership. Grateful to our BCH leaders - Jasleen & Madhumita for making the send-off special.

Impact: In partnership with Dee’s We’re Sew Creative, over the years countless patients received heart-shaped comfort pillows with pockets for hot or cold packs (post surgery), specialized chemo port seatbelt pillows that provide protection and relief while traveling, and soft hats designed for sensitive scalps affected by chemotherapy. These thoughtful creations have made a meaningful difference in the lives of BCH Cancer Fighters throughout North Carolina and across the United States.
We have also provided these care packages to cancer patients at Atrium Health’s Levine Children’s Cancer and the Department of Supportive Oncology Cancer Resource Center, bringing comfort and support throughout their cancer journey.

As we say farewell to Dee’s We’re Sew Creative, we are grateful that this meaningful project will carry on. Through the careful planning of Diana, owner of Dee’s We’re Sew Creative, the partnership is being transitioned to Quilt Patch Fabrics. We appreciate this thoughtful handoff and look forward to a continued and valued collaboration

San Antonio breast cancer symposium - poster presentation

San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) 2025 (World’s Largest Breast Cancer Conference)

We are proud to announce that the grassroots breast cancer work in Sierra Leone led by Thinking Pink and Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) was accepted and showcased at the SABCS 2025.

The study, “Challenges in Breast Cancer Screening and Awareness in Sierra Leone – Initiatives by Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation and Breast Cancer Hub,” was presented on 11 December 2025 by Dr. Lopamudra Das Roy, Principal Investigator, bringing global visibility to locally driven impact.

A heartfelt and well-deserved shout-out to the exceptional co-authors - Cremelda Parkinson Pratt, Amidu Barrie, Rachel Brewah, Janet Kanu, Adeyemi Sandy, Edward Foday, and Dr. Lopamudra Das Roy - whose dedication and collaboration made this impactful research possible.

The findings highlight a critical public health gap in breast cancer awareness, screening, and early intervention in Sierra Leone. Late-stage diagnoses and near-total mortality among confirmed cases underscore the urgent need for national breast cancer programs. TP and BCH have pioneered community-centered approaches, providing free screenings, awareness education, and patient aid. The collaborative model demonstrates the potential for grassroots action to drive systemic change. Continued expansion of such programs, combined with national policy support, is essential to reduce preventable deaths and improve survival outcomes in Sierra Leone.

winter drive - Cabarrus County Social Services

2nd December 2025: Breast Cancer Hub (BCH), as part of Healthy Cabarrus (Cabarrus Health Alliance), is grateful for the opportunity to support the Winter Drive organized by the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services in service of the underserved community in Cabarrus County. We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Heather Altman, Ms. Kristen Duryee, and Ms. Natalia Weaver for providing BCH with this meaningful opportunity.

A big shoutout to Rishaan Chatterjee for executing the winter drive with such dedication as a BCH ambassador and gathering an impressively huge amount of winter wear from his neighbors and network. October 15, 2025, Charlotte: Sincere thanks to the “Women In Technology at Ally” organizing team for the kind invitation and for hosting such a meaningful “Women Owning Work Wednesday” focused on Breast Cancer Awareness.

It was my immense honor to speak about early detection, screening tools, and advancements in breast cancer treatment and care. A heartfelt shout-out to Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) Club Officers at Ardrey Kell High School — Atharva Khatavkar, Shriyansh Pothula, and Neel Dutt — for powerfully representing Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) during the AK Spring Fest on May 17, 2025.

The student leaders educated the community on BCH’s 100% Free services — from screening to diagnosis, treatment guidance, emotional support, and student outreach programs. We also discussed our BCH expert seamstresses stitched essential Patient care package made with love and warmth: Our bundle contains heart-shaped pillow with a pocket to insert cold or hot pack providing comfort and healing post Breast Cancer Surgery (also applicable for other cancers), specialized Chemo port Seat Belt pillows to wear in the Car while seated, and Soft Hats for irritated scalp from chemo, beneficial for patients, along with expressive cards with creative artwork to bring smiles to the patients handcrafted by BCH”.

Groundbreaking Free Breast Cancer Hub App “BCH KNOW YOUR BREASTS” Officially Launched. Available at Apple and Google Play Store (IOS and ANDROID)– A First-of-Its-Kind BSE Reminder App for All Genders in 24 Languages in USA currently.

May 7, 2025 – Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) is proud to announce the official launch of its lifesaving and completely FREE app, “BCH KNOW YOUR BREASTS”—the first Breast Self-Exam (BSE) reminder app designed for all genders, including women, men, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Available in 24 languages, this innovative tool aims to make the early detection of breast cancer accessible and inclusive for everyone around the world.

Developed in close collaboration with the Computer Science + Social Good (CSSG) Club at UNC Chapel Hill, the app is the product of a year-long effort by a passionate team of 8–10 student developers (UNC Chapel Hill CSSG team). The project was initially sourced by Nirmal Rajendran, with current project leads Amy Xu, Matthew Zhu, Maddie Dai, and Toren Kristofferson, driving the initiative forward, with the support of Delaney Broderick, Richard Lin, Maxwell Hu, and Anuj Pannala. A special thanks goes to Amy Xu for her unwavering commitment in execution and ongoing support. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the entire CSSG team for building the app Free for BCH and Yashu Singhai and Pranav Wagh, the Presidents of the Club who played a key role in the collaboration.

April 12, 2025, Anamta Eid Milap (Carnival), Concord, NC: On behalf of Breast Cancer Hub (BCH), I immensely thank Mr. Fiaz Syed, Founder of ANAMTA, for inviting BCH to conduct Cancer Awareness outreach and share our life-saving educational resources and Patient Care Package, giving BCH an opportunity to serve the Anamta family. Hats off to the Anamta Executive Team, L to R: Mr. Fazil Mohammed, Mr. Afroze Shaikh, Mr. Sami Patel, Mr. Fiaz Syed, Mr. Moid Khan, and Mr. Zameer Shaikh, for flawlessly implementing the event and supporting the cause.

I cannot be more grateful to Ms. Vanaja Rajaraman for helping set up the BCH table and supervising our BCH ambassadors as they executed the Cancer Awareness outreach. A huge shout-out to our BCH youth ambassadors, Sanjana Gopalakrishnan, Anika Kasuganti, Deetya Chimakurty, Ruthvika Kambam, Viva Mittal, and Akshara Gurudu, for volunteering at the event, spreading the message of Early detection and Prevention, and discussing BCH's grassroots diverse missions.

“At the outreach, we distributed BCH brochures with the QR codes to download the Breast Self Exam cards in 24 languages for Her and Him, QR code for Early detection cards for other prevalent cancers, created by BCH, and contact information so that any suspicious case can reach out to me later for treatment guidance and support. Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine - Research day, Kalamazoo, Michigan, April 03, 2025

A) “A shocking presentation of Male Breast Cancer in a 17-year-old” and B) “Male Breast Cancer - A rare but deadly Cancer”, were accepted for poster presentation at “Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine - Research Day, April 03, 2025”, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and presented by Srikavya Pasumarthy. We are incredibly grateful to our Co-authors, Bret Miller and Peggy Miller, Founders of Male Breast Cancer Happens, for sharing the inspiring life of Bret Miller (A). We immensely thank Patricia Washburn for allowing us to report the life of the Late Marlyn Washburn’s motivational journey with Cancer (B). Both studies reflect the importance of Early detection screening for Male Breast Cancer and the need to change the healthcare policies, emphasizing the urgent need for routine Breast screening for Males.

I am immensely proud of Srikavya Pasumarthy’s sincerity and hard work as a BCH research Scholar, and mentoring Kavya is a pleasure.
