bch mumbai support family meet

May 9th 2026: The Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) Mumbai Support Family recently created truly memorable moments for patients residing at Shraddha Foundation, Chembur, Mumbai - a shelter that supports underprivileged cancer patients receiving treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital.

This beautiful initiative was led by our inspiring BCH Mumbai Cancer Thrivers, Ms. Anjali Gadoya and Ms. Jyoti Rajani. The gathering was organized in honor of the birthday of Ms. Jyoti Rajani’s son-in-law, Mr. Nitin Narang, with the food lovingly sponsored by Jyoti ji’s family.

What made the day extra special was the warmth, compassion, and joy brought in by our incredible BCH volunteer family - Ms. Deepti Kulshrestha (Cancer Thriver), Ms. Isha Talreja, Ms. Kashmira Swain and Mr. Smit K Etam. From dancing and singing to spontaneous skits and heartfelt interactions, our BCH leaders filled the atmosphere with laughter, positivity, and happiness, helping patients momentarily forget their pain and sadness.

Hats off to our amazing BCH volunteer leaders for bringing smiles, hope, and human connection where it matters most. The patient interactions were deeply touching and truly reflected the spirit of compassion and togetherness that defines BCH.

We are also sincerely thankful to Shraddha Foundation coordinator Mr. Deepak Mohapatra for giving BCH this wonderful opportunity to connect, support, and spread joy among the patients.

Together, we continue to stand beside every cancer warrior with love, strength, and hope.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Dr Lopamudra Das Roy, on behalf of BCH family

Breast Cancer Screening Camp, Nadia

Breast Cancer Screening Camp, Nadia

January 13, 2026, Nadia District, West Bengal: Breast Cancer Screening Camp in BCH-Adopted Villages: Any guesses who welcomed us on our journey from Duttapulia to Huda village in Nadia district? It certainly wasn't what we expected :). Alongside our door-to-door breast cancer screening in Nadia district since December 2022, we also conducted a Breast Cancer Screening Camp. It was deeply fulfilling to perform clinical breast examinations (CBE) for approximately 109 women from Duttapulia and Huda villages, identifying 21 women with suspicious findings who require further evaluation.

One of the most rewarding moments was seeing every woman willingly come forward for a clinical breast examination after the breast cancer awareness and sensitization session. Awareness truly empowers women to take the first step toward early detection.

For every woman with suspicious findings, the Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) team ensures seamless end-to-end care so that no patient has to navigate the cancer journey alone. BCH has built a sustainable, patient-centered model that supports patients across the entire continuum of care. Since nearby Duttapulia and Ramnagar Primary Health Centres lack comprehensive diagnostic facilities, our team bridges these critical access gaps by accompanying patients to Nadia District Hospital, Krishnanagar-a journey of approximately 45 km (about two hours each way) by bus, train, and toto-and, when needed, to Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata, over 100 km away by bus, train, and auto.

Our support extends far beyond transportation. We accompany patients to hospital visits, arrange travel, help obtain income certificates and health cards required for registration at government hospitals, facilitate communication with healthcare providers, provide financial assistance for diagnostic tests and treatments not covered under government schemes, safely escort patients home, conduct regular follow-ups, offer counseling and emotional support, teach post-surgical rehabilitation exercises, and remain by their side throughout every stage of treatment. This comprehensive approach ensures that underserved women receive timely diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate support—because no one should have to face breast cancer alone.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Sreema Mahila Samity for their invaluable support and logistical coordination. Very proud of our great team: Rimpa Biswas, Sima Basak, Ratna Basak, who are local residents of Kumari & Huda village, working wholeheartedly; Sabarna Saraswati who is the Field Project lead, directly supervises our Field workers for accuracy and transparency. Thank you Akhaya Mohanty for your help. Thanks to Sandeep Roy for sponsoring my travel to India, and to Julie Daugherty for supporting my domestic travel within India.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Dr Lopamudra Das Roy

Duttapulia, Nadia Breast Cancer Awareness and Screening

Duttapulia, Nadia, WB: Breast Cancer Awareness & Screening Camp, January 13, 2026:

It was incredibly fulfilling to conduct a breast cancer awareness and sensitization program, encourage women to prioritize breast cancer screening, and provide clinical breast examinations. We also distributed BCH Breast Self-Examination (BSE) Cards in the local language and introduced participants to the BCH BSE Reminder App, empowering them to perform monthly self-examinations and promote early detection. To make the session interactive and practical, we used simulated breast models with palpable lumps, allowing participants to touch and feel different types of breast lumps. This hands-on experience helped women become familiar with what an abnormal lump may feel like, increasing their confidence in recognizing potential changes during their own breast self-examinations. For women with suspicious findings, the Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) team ensures seamless end-to-end care, ensuring that no patient is left to navigate the journey alone.

BCH has established a sustainable, patient-centered model that provides comprehensive support throughout the entire continuum of care. Our team accompanies patients to hospitals, arranges transportation, assists in obtaining income certificates and health cards that enable registration at government hospitals, facilitates communication with healthcare professionals, provides financial assistance for diagnostic tests and treatments not covered under government schemes, safely escorts patients back home, conducts regular follow-ups, offers counseling and emotional support, accompanies patients to subsequent hospital visits, teaches post-surgical rehabilitation exercises, and walks alongside every patient through each stage of their treatment journey—ensuring no one has to face cancer alone.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Sreema Mahila Samity for their invaluable support and logistical coordination, which made this initiative possible. Our collaboration with the Malabar Cancer Care Society (MCCS), Kannur, Kerala, began in 2023 with a shared commitment to cancer screening and research. Building on this meaningful partnership, we successfully conducted a highly impactful two-day hands-on Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening Camp on January 2 and 3, 2026. The program included Pap smear, VIA/VILI, and breast cancer screening procedures and was conducted at MCCS and St. Michael’s AIHSS. The initiative proved to be both enriching and rewarding for all involved. In addition, an in-person research meeting was held (Jan 4, 2026) as a follow-up to our ongoing virtual Zoom discussions, further strengthening our collaborative research efforts.

It has been truly fulfilling to serve the people of Kerala and to work alongside the dedicated MCCS team: Mr. D. Krishnananda Pai (President), Dr. V. C. Ravindran (Medical Director), Dr. Harsha Gangadharan (Medical Officer), Dr. Nilanjana, Jinsha, Haritha, Saptha, Ammalu, Saritha, Sujith, BSW students Durga Theertha, Ashwathi, and Jyothika, Major P. Govindhan (VC), Radhakrishnan P. (Convenor), and P. J. Jacob (VC). Their unwavering commitment and teamwork were instrumental in the success of this initiative.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Thomson Antony, SJ, Headmaster of St. Michael’s School, and the entire staff for their invaluable support and cooperation in advancing this noble cause.

I thank Sandeep Roy for sponsoring my travel from the USA to India, to Julie Daugherty for supporting my domestic travel within India, and to the Malabar Cancer Care Society for kindly providing accommodation during my stay.
