Monthly Team Meetings - BCH Adopted Villages - Nadia District (Kumari and Huda)

BCH adopted villages - nadia district (kumarI and huda village), WB - monthly team meetings with due diligence for updates and progress

Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) Adopted Kumari village (an extremely interior, the India-Bangladesh border) and Huda Village (a tribal-dominated ) in Nadia District, WB, India, for door-to-door Cancer screening-awareness, Diagnosis, Treatment Management Aid and Counselling, taking care end-to-end after a series of groundwork in the area. After conducting the community outreaches and creating the teams in August 2022 during my in-person fieldwork in the areas, as follow-ups, I am executing the overall supervision with close monitoring through WhatsApp calls & team zoom meetings. Our BCH field workers are Rimpa Biswas, Sima Basak, Ratna Basak, who are local residents of Kumari & Huda village. The overall Nadia project is under the supervision of Akhaya Mohanty and Sabarna Saraswati is the Field Project lead and directly supervises our Field workers for accuracy and transparency. We take the suspicious cases to the Duttapulia local hospital or other local hospitals providing free/subsidized treatment. After the preliminary screening, as needed, we will take the patients to Kolkata for further diagnosis and treatment if required or find other hospitals to treat the case locally. We received assurance from the local hospital doctor and nurse, that our patients will receive the subsidized treatment once we process the needed income health cards.

I am extremely thankful to Sreema Mahila Samity, for the support, that helped us reach the interiors of Kumari and Huda village, for the help and guidance.

With gratitude,

Dr Lopamudra Das Roy, (Principal Investigator of the project)

A huge shout-out to our BCH Ambassadors, the students of Subharti Medical College, Meerut, India, for executing the event flawlessly with passion and dedication! I am so proud of the team for helping make a difference and for all the hard work: SAACHI GUPTA, SIDDHANT SHARMA, RIPIKA SAXENA, TANYA SHARMA , TANU YADAV, MANRAJ SINGH, PRADYUMAN MISHRA. Special thanks to SHATAKSHI SHARMA, RIYA GOEL, DIVYANSH VATS. A huge thanks to the TEAM'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS who helped with the behind-the-scenes efforts!

Thank you, SAACHI, for reaching out to me, with the initiative to represent BCH at the Carnival with our BCH Stall, sincerely appreciate the gestures. On behalf of BCH, I also wanted to convey my heartfelt thanks to our kindhearted sponsors SAACHI, SIDDHANT, and TANYA for donating Rs.3428, Rs.2000, and Rs.4830 respectively towards the total expenses of Rs. 16,428 BCH incurred to execute the event.

A note below from Saachi Gupta on behalf of the team about their execution:

"We distributed paper bags which contained brochures, bookmarks, wrist bands and thank you cards to everyone. In the brochures - we explained to them about the QR codes of breast self-exam cards in 24 languages and early detection screening cards for other cancers. We printed a few breast self-exam cards (English and Hindi) to give people an idea about the cards. We told them about the non-profitable organization and the works of Dr. Lopamudra ma’am. We discussed the importance of early detection and treatment in breast cancer. We explained to them about the colour scheme- pink for breast cancer in women, blue in men and purple for all other cancers. We motivated students to share the breast self-exam cards to their mothers, fathers and other family members. The CEO of the university Dr. Shalya Raj ma’am was very impressed with the students’ initiative. The details about the booth were also shared on a local hindi newspaper. We also put up a white board for people to write to us and the BCH family. We even told them about the hashtags- #togetherwesavelives #breakthebreasttaboo #breakthecancertabboo #knowyourbody. All students who visited the booth wore the BCH wristbands and supported the initiative."

Words fall short to express my happiness...so proud of each of you!

With gratitude,
