university of benin - hospital, Edo City, Nigeria, feb 06, 2025
February 6th, 2025: My visit to the Hospital-University of Benin, Edo City, Nigeria, was truly eye-opening. Although Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) has been serving Nigeria since 2021 in collaboration with Oke Creative Future Foundation (OCF), this was my first opportunity to meet our partners and the communities we support in person.
Discussions with healthcare professionals highlighted the significant challenges faced by underserved populations, including poverty, inadequate infrastructure, frequent power outages, limited access to clean water, and barriers to cancer care. These firsthand insights reinforced the urgent need to expand community screening, patient treatment, and research initiatives.
I am grateful to Prof. Vincent Adams, Consultant Public Health Physician; Dr. Ikhile Emmanuel, Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist; Dr. Oboh Evaristus O., Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist; and Prof. Caroline Omoti, Consultant Haemato-Oncologist, for sharing their experiences and helping us better understand the healthcare challenges facing the region.
It was deeply rewarding to see the impact of BCH's work and to witness how the support of our donors and partners is helping improve access to cancer care for those most in need.
A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Letter Okeoghene, Founder of Oke Creative Future Foundation, and the entire OCF team for their invaluable partnership and support.
With gratitude,
Dr Lopamudra Das Roy (Founder-President)
