Dove Cot Market, Sierra Leone

Breast Cancer Sensitization and Screening at DOVE COT Market, Sierra Leone, Feb 08, 2024

2021 onwards Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation in Partnership with Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) in Sierre Leone, Africa: Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) has been serving patients in Sierra Leone, supporting them with treatment Aid for the underprivileged since 2021 in collaboration with Thinking Pink, with detailed follow-up on the treatment and Aid-expenses of the patients. This year, in addition to patient treatment Aid, Breast Cancer Hub initiated a new program in Sierra Leone, Africa: Monthly Sensitization and Free Screening on a national level to visit schools, deprived communities, and marketplaces. This dream of mine could be only implemented because of the leadership and dedication of Mrs. Cremelda Parkinson Prett and the great team of Thinking Pink.

In Commemoration of World Cancer Day February 4th 2024 organized by (UNION FOR INTERNATIONAL CANCER CONTROL) UICC on the theme: “Close the Care Gap” Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation in partnership with Breast Cancer Hub organized a successful Breast Cancer Awareness campaign and free screening at the Dove Cot- market axis on February 8th 2024. Dove Cot is a populated market situated in the Eastern side of Freetown.  In preparation of the event, a letter of partnership was sent to the Chairpersons of the Dove Cot Market and the management of Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) situated at the market avenue.

A mobile sensitization campaign was executed, the day before the event encouraging every woman/girl and man to take advantage of the opportunity and get screened as early detection saves lives. The event witnessed active participation of the local community and 101 women registered for screening with 26 of them detected with abnormalities. The cases with abnormalities were provided with psycho–social support and follow-up care by our Doctor.

100% of Breast Cancer Hub (BCH) services are FREE of Cost, and 100% of donations are driven towards our mission (donor’s choice).

With gratitude,
